Weekly deadlines*, powerful insights into your work, and Olympic-level editorial coaching. The Salon is part workshop, part editorial craft studio. Every week, submit 1200 words to your reading trio* for asynchronous comments and encouragement, and every three weeks you share up to 1200 words, read to the group at large, for Elizabeth’s critique and craft discussion. Either you or by someone in the class you choose will read your work–already an impactful editorial tool Jennifer Egan swears by. Then Elizabeth will respond orally, offering rigorous and passionate commentary (a deeper version of what you may have experienced in Craft Studio), uplifting your strengths and clarifying your ways forward. Each session will begin with an editorial exercise drawn from the lessons of the previous week’s three submissions (both strengths and areas for growth). You will apply that exercise to your own work during this opening portion of class, exploring the ways these salon critiques can be turned into productive editorial craft techniques.

*If you would prefer NOT to read and be read weekly by a terrific group of motivated writers, you can opt to share only on the whole-group level once every three weeks.
